The Afghan cricketer, Mujeeb has been recovering from an injury and has missed the last two games played for Afghanistan. Regarding this, Indian off-spinner, Ravi Ashwin has come up with a controversial statement before the New Zealand and Afghanistan match.
Ashwin was joking around stating that the Indian team might provide some physio support to Mujeeb Ur Rahman for him to bounce back on field to defend against the black caps.
India faced two consecutive defeats in this tournament and managed to secure one victory against the Afghanistan team. It is important for India to win the upcoming two games to qualify for the semi finals. Apart from that, the results of other games in the Group 2 category will also come into consideration. For India to reach the semis, either Namibia or Afghanistan must defeat New Zealand.
Having this in mind, Ashwin wished that India might provide Mujeeb some support to recover soon as he could be of better help in defeating Kiwis in the next game. Also, he appreciated Afghanistan for playing good cricket this tournament and wished them luck for their upcoming ventures.
“It’s a funny game and Afghanistan has played good cricket and a lot of our hopes rest with them, so all the very best to them. I really wish if we could provide any physio support to Mujeeb we can get him on the field. This is all we can hope for,” Ashwin was quoted during the press conference.
Ravi Ashwin Reacts to Mujeeb’s Health Condition
So far, the Indian team has showcased their worst performance in the World cup campaign. They lost their debut match against Pakistan and things got worse after losing again to New Zealand. However, the team revived themselves from the bad omen by securing their first victory in this tournament by defeating Afghanistan.
Regarding the conversations in the dressing room, Ashwin said that everyone is keen about the next two games as it might bring in a huge impact. “The discussion that we need to have is about how we are going to go about the couple of games we have left. Everyone is planning and wanting to go on a real high for the last two games. The rest of it is not in our control, we just have our fingers crossed,” Ashwin concluded.
